MISSION STATEMENT

The Youth-In-Government Club is organized to provide opportunities in participatory politics for high school students in grades 10-12. Students will have opportunities to participate in "simulated" elections (ie. National Parent-Student Mock Election) and Congressional activities sponsored by the YMCA.

ABOUT THE CLUB

Each spring hundreds of young Virginians converge upon the state Capitol to experience firsthand the conditions and procedures under which elected officials work. Students assume roles as Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney and House Speaker, Pages, Senators, Representatives, and Lobbyists, etc. Since 1984, more than 30,000 students have participated in the program. Another option for our club is to promote honor and academic integrity, during the 2009-2010 school year, by initiating a school wide process.

CLUB REQUIERMENTS

Any student who is interested in promoting civic education is invited to attend.
