MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Debate Team is to provide opportunities for and promote student participation and interest in significant political and socioeconomic issues, which require reasonable response by established governmental agencies. Additionally, our goal is to afford students an opportunity to refine critical thinking skills in a highly competitive forum. This year our students will compete in the Peninsula District Debate League (PDL) and the Tidewater Debate League (TDL).
TEAM CAPTAINS
The Debate Team has twelve students that have expressed an interest in participating this school year. Returning members and varsity debaters are: Co-Captains; Mia Knowles and Alyssa Weaver. Ten students applied and were eligible to join our team.
CLUB REQUIREMENTS
All members of the team must meet the eligibility requirements of the Virginia High School League.
CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY DEBATE TOPIC
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase social services for persons living in poverty in the United States.

Meetings are held every Wednesday afternoon in Room PC-6
