Head Coach James Daniel
Entering his 3rd season as the head coach of the Phoebus Phantoms, Coach Daniel has a combine record of 14-26. Daniel was named to the top position in September 2005 by former principle Donna Woods after serving as Head JV (with a winning percentage of 85%) and Head Assistant (under the leadership of Craig Brehon) at Bethel High School, from 1994-2004.
Prior to joining the Bethel staff, Coach Daniel worked as an Assistant coach at Christopher Newport University Lady Captions, under the leadership of Cathy Parsons. During that year CNU produced an all American guard Karen Barefoot. They finished the Dixie conference in 1st place.
Coach Daniel started his coaching career in 1992-93 at Bethel High School as an assistant coach under the direction of Coach Baily. During that year, Bethel won the state championship and produced All-American point guard Allen Iverson and All-State guard Tony Rutland.
Last years seniors, Alvin Hester and Craig Fortune are now playing college basketball, thanks to the leadership of Coach Daniel. His direction for the program has been steadfast and on course, whereas his student-athletes are able to attend college and play on the next level.
In his free time, Daniel serves the community in many ways. He has been involved in Boo Williams AAU, a program geared to the development of young boys in the Hampton area for the past 12 years. Daniel was the keynote speaker at the 2006 Syms banquet recognizing the achievements of their student-athletes.
After graduating from Stone Wall Jackson High School, Daniel attended St. Leo College, where he received his BA, then Strayer University where he received his MBA. He then played in Europe for 3 years under Head Coach Pat Brizzi.
Coach Daniel is married to Wendy and they have four children (Carmen, James III, Brice and Christopher).
With the return of his 8 players, Coach Daniels is looking forward to the 2007-2008 season.
