Offerings and Course Descriptions


 

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY (PLTW)

The High School Program is a four year sequence of courses which, when combined with traditional mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering prior to entering college.

Our PLTW program is certified.  This means that students may receive college credit and recognition as Exemplary Students if they have an 85% or higher in each PLTW course, have achieved a 70% or higher on the college credit examinations, have completed a portfolio for each PLTW course, and have paid tuition required by the college for each qualifying course.


ROBOTICS

Hampton City Schools’ award winning Robotics Program is the only one available on the Virginia Peninsula.  In this program our high school students are involved in high-tech automation.  The course is designed to allow students to experience the development and expansion of technology.  The course is taught in a hands-on, project oriented, problem solving approach. Acceptance in the program is through application with students’ qualifications evaluated on an individual basis. Designed for students desiring a career in manufacturing technology or engineering. All courses must be taken in sequence. All courses are taught at the Magnet Center for High Tech at Phoebus High School.


CISCO NETWORKING ACADEMY

CISCO Academy provides experiences that lead to CISCO Certified Network Administrator (CCNA); an industry recognized certification for students desiring a career in computer and Internet network administration. All courses must be taken in sequence. All courses are taught at the Magnet Center for High Tech at Phoebus High School.


TECHNICAL DRAWING AND DESIGN

Prepare for a career in Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Technology.  Acquire skill sets necessary in design, CADD, drafting, prototyping, and information technology.  Participate in leadership and skills competition in Technology Student Association (TSA).  Many of these courses are offered at the Center for High Tech located at Phoebus High School.


GRAPHICS AND PRINTING

Prepare for careers in the print industry. Students may earn an industry certification in Photoshop and PageMaker as well as learn how to perform all tasks in a point shop. All courses must be taken in sequence. All courses are taught at the Magnet Center for High Tech at Phoebus High School.
